Why An Aluminum Fence Can Be Just As Good As Cast Iron

Are you trying to decide on the kind of fencing material that will be used for your home, and have narrowed down your choice between aluminum and cast iron? While these two materials may seem very different, they have more similarities than you think due to the following reasons.

The Look

Can you tell the difference between a cast iron and aluminum fence from a distance? Probably not, and that is how the majority of people are going to view the fence after it is installed. This means that you can enjoy the look of cast iron, but end up paying much less because of how aluminum is constructed. You don't need to select a cast iron fence and break your budget since aluminum can look just as good.

The Construction

The main difference between a quality aluminum and cast iron fence is going to be the construction. Cast iron has a punch rail construction system where a hole is made in the horizontal rail so that the vertical posts can be inserted. Those posts are then welded to the frame so that they will not move.

Aluminum fencing is very similar since it still has the same punch rail construction, but the two pieces are not welded together. Instead, they are held together by a screw that goes through the horizontal rail and vertical post. This section with the screw is often put on the inside of your fence if it is installed in the front yard so that people see the smooth side when approaching your home. In your backyard, it is common to put the side with the screw on the exterior so that people just see the smooth edge when they are gathered inside the fence.

The Finials

Cast iron and aluminum fencing will also have finials attached to the top of the vertical posts to give it a nice look. Thankfully, those finials are often created in the exact same way using a sand casted mold. This means that the finials can look identical in terms of their shape and texture, even though they are made from two different materials.

If you are still not sold on an aluminum fence, then reach out to a fencing contractor for more information about using this type of material. They'll let you know about more reasons that can reassure you that it is the right type of fence for your home. Contact an aluminum fence installation service for additional information.
